Biden vows to provide aid to Florida's recovery after the storm

The US President, Joe Biden, has pledged to offer any help to Florida to recover, after the devastation left behind by Tropical Storm Idalia.

Biden made these statements from the scene, where at least two people are believed to have died, from the storm's landfall on Wednesday in this state.

Biden has said that no "intelligent" person doubts the impact of climate change on such storms.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has decided not to meet with President Biden.

DeSantis, who is aiming to win the Republican nomination in the US presidential race, has previously said that Biden's presence in Florida would hamper disaster response efforts.

Biden, who has talked several times with DeSantis during the week, by phone, said that he will also physically go to Florida.

Idalia made landfall as a powerful storm in Florida's Big Bend area on Wednesday, and has been described by officials as the worst storm to hit the region in 100 years.

Since that day, the storm has moved north, hitting neighboring states such as Georgia and the two Carolinas.

Homes and businesses have been flooded, and thousands of people have been left without electricity./ REL
