EU transfers billions more to Ukraine

The European Union has transferred a new tranche of financial assistance worth around 2.8 billion euros to Ukraine. "Ukraine's speed and commitment to implementing important reforms have justified this payment," said EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the funds will be used to finance the most important state expenditures, including the social and humanitarian sectors.

According to the European Commission, this is the seventh payment under the so-called Ukraine Facility. Through this financing mechanism, Ukraine could benefit from up to 50 billion euros by the end of 2027.

Further assistance after the change in Hungary

Since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, the European Union and its member states have pledged nearly 205 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. This includes military and financial support, as well as aid for refugees.

Of this amount, 3.8 billion euros were secured from the income generated by the administration of frozen Russian assets. Since the new government came to power in Hungary, several obstacles have been unblocked. After Hungary's change of position, a loan of 90 billion euros was approved and funds are also being released from other sources of financing.
