Three Pristina Municipality officials arrested for bribery and abuse of office

Three officials of the Municipality of Pristina were arrested during an action on January 27, under suspicion of the criminal offenses of "abuse of official duty" and "taking a bribe."

The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina said that the action was carried out with special investigative measures and one of the officials was caught red-handed taking a bribe.

"During the implementation of special investigative measures, three people were arrested, among whom the municipal official, AG, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offense of 'taking a bribe' under Article 421 of the Criminal Code, in order to help the injured party make a payment for the work he had performed under the contract with the municipality," the Prosecution Office said in a statement, an institution that encouraged citizens to report corruption cases.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, said that the municipality will offer cooperation with the responsible bodies in this case.

"In this spirit, the capital Pristina remains open to any verification process and procedural action, in a spirit of cooperation and with full respect for the justice bodies of the Republic of Kosovo," Rama wrote on Facebook.

According to the laws in force, for accepting a bribe, an official can be punished with a fine, but also with imprisonment of up to 15 years, depending on the material value resulting from this criminal offense.

Meanwhile, various penalties are also provided for abuse of official duty, reaching up to 10 years in prison, depending on the value of the gain or damage caused by this criminal offense./CNA
