Knife attack at a school in France / 1 victim and 3 injured reported

A high school student was killed and three others were injured in a stabbing attack by a colleague on Thursday, April 24, at around 12:30 p.m., at the Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides middle and high school in Nantes, France. The perpetrator is a student at the school, who for unknown reasons entered two classrooms and attacked the victims, according to Agence France-Presse.

The suspected perpetrator was apprehended after being subdued by school staff, according to AFP. His name was no longer present in the judicial file system, the police source told Le Monde. No information was given on the victims' ages or genders.

Education Minister Elisabeth Borne reacted to the incident through a post on 'X'.

 "I am going to the scene with Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau," the Minister said.

She wrote that, while there, she planned to express all her solidarity with the victims and her support for the educational community.

In recent months, a series of tragedies involving teenagers with knives have occurred in and around schools, prompting the government to take action. Borne has announced its intention to strengthen rules regarding students found to have knives on school premises. In future, such cases will be systematically referred to a disciplinary board. /CNA
