Pope Francis's funeral on Saturday at St. Peter's Basilica

Pope Francis' funeral will be held on April 26 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican announced. The procession will be presided over by the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.

On Wednesday morning, the body of Pope Francis will be transferred to the Vatican Basilica, as it is currently located in Casa Santa Marta.

The day of the Holy Father's funeral is also the first day of the "novendial", the nine days of mourning for the passing of Pope Francis.

Thus, the Mass of Light and the funeral of Pope Francis will be held next Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the first day of Novena, in front of St. Peter's Basilica, as provided for in the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis.

At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, the final blessing and farewell (Ultima commendatio e Valedictio) will be given. The Pope's coffin will then be taken to St. Peter's Basilica and from there to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for burial.
