Pope Francis' passing/ Actors and presenters remember the Holy Father

Pope Francis passed away on Monday morning. Reactions and tributes to the Holy Father have been numerous, including many actors and television presenters.

The actor who earned an Oscar nomination for portraying Pope Francis in the film “The Two Popes,” Jonathan Pryce, said it was a privilege to portray the Holy Father and expressed sadness at his death. Further, Pryce said the Pope was a man of integrity who embraced diversity and equality, spoke out for the poor, the unjust, refugees and immigrants.

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas wrote in a status on social media that the Holy Father was "a man who, at the head of the Catholic Church, showed kindness, love and mercy to the people most in need."

Host Jimmy Fallon, in a status on social media, recalled meeting with the Pope last summer and thanked him for his encouraging words.

"Former gladiator" Russell Crowe on platform X, next to a photo of Rome, writes that it is a sad day for believers.

Journalist Maria Shriver said she was heartbroken by the passing of the Holy Father. Shriver also recalled traveling to Rome to report on the early days of Pope Francis' election, which she called one of the highlights of her career.

"I hope that whoever comes next will continue the stable, strong and compassionate leadership of Pope Francis," she added.

Presenter Whoopi Goldberg shared a photo with Pope Francis on social media, alongside which she wrote: "the closest in a long time that seemed to remember that the love of Christ covered the believer and no believer."/ CNA
