"I met him two weeks ago"/ King Charles offers condolences on the Pope's passing

King Charles has issued a statement regarding the demise of Pope Francis, just two weeks after their historic meeting with the Pope during a private audience in Italy.

His Majesty travelled to Rome earlier this month for a highly symbolic visit to the Vatican, where he was warmly welcomed by the Pope along with Queen Camilla.

The meeting, which was understood to have been organised at short notice, was seen as a significant moment in the King's reign, underscoring his long-standing interest in interfaith dialogue and global diplomacy.

"My wife and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis. Our heavy hearts are somewhat lightened, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry," the King announced in his message. /CNA
