3 strategies to turn your morning run into a habit

There are many good reasons to incorporate a morning run into your life. It's a great way to wake up, gives you a valuable boost of energy and motivation, as you'll have accomplished something important before you even "start" your day.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy, especially if you’re not a “morning person.” However, there are strategies that can make it easier for you so that it eventually becomes your new favorite habit.

Start with sleep.

Quality, restorative sleep is essential to enjoying your morning run. To start, adopt healthy sleep habits (if you don't already have them). Some practices that can help include:

-Avoid caffeine in the late afternoon.

-Establish a nighttime routine that helps you relax, such as a warm bath or meditation.

-Try to go to bed at the same time every night.

-Create a calm and comfortable bedroom.

Gradually, with these habits, you will be able to have a consistent sleep schedule so that you sleep better and have more energy.

Prepare the night before

Lay out your clothes the night before so you're ready to go in the morning. That way, when you wake up, you can splash some water on your face and freshen up before your run.

Put aside  the  alarm clock. 

The earlier the alarm goes off, the more likely we are to hit the snooze button. And while your goal may be to get a few more minutes of sleep, 30 to 40 minutes will have passed and suddenly you won't have time to run.

So if you have trouble waking up, put your alarm clock on the other side of the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Or better yet, put it on top of your clothes. /CNA
