Veliaj makes a mockery of the trial/Lawyer complains about the taxi

A preliminary hearing was held today at the Special Court for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

The court-appointed lawyer, Valentina Teodorescu, requested more time in today's session and said: I went to Durrës prison to meet my client, but because the taxi cost me a lot and was waiting for me outside, I couldn't speak long enough.

This is a ridiculous argument. If the lawyer needs a taxi, we as CNA provide her with a taxi for free. Although there is a bus, she can go in the morning for 2 thousand lek and return in the afternoon, after spending as many hours as she wants with her client, Erion Veliaj, who is facing 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

On the other hand, we must consider that Erion Veliaj and his brother Arbër Veliaj paid 220 thousand dollars to lobby in the US and did not have money to pay the lawyer's fee, who legally represents them in the GJKKO.

In fact, Erion Veliaj, by making the process ridiculous, is simply harming himself and he himself is suffering the consequences. A judicial process that should be quick, fair, has been postponed for almost 7 months in a thousand and one ways and today the "next discovery" was the lawyer's taxi.

So Erion Veliaj has no money for the lawyer's taxi, while he pays 220 thousand dollars in the USA.

Since she's so short on money, we as CNA offer our tool to the lawyer, to have at her disposal. She can come and get it whenever she wants, day or night, it's free, without any payment.

We, as CNA, will pay for it, just so that Erion Veliaj is familiarized with the charges and evidence and the lawyer can spend the time she needs with her client, so that the judicial process can proceed normally and not become ridiculous, as the mayor of Tirana, who has been arrested since February 10, 2025, is doing./CNA
