Today, the 15th protest is expected to take place in front of the Municipality of Tirana, where the resignation of the mayor Erion Veliaj will be demanded again.

The protests in front of this municipality are taking place because of the scandals that happened in this institution that is led by Erion Veliaj, such as the affair of the incinerators and the "5D" file, where a number of directors were arrested after SPAK investigations.

Even Veliaj himself was questioned by SPAK about the incinerator affair, while the court has issued other security measures, by order of the special prosecutor.

Tensions and clashes with the police have not been missing in recent protests, as protesters have tried to enter the municipality building. Flares and gasoline bottles were also thrown, as well as tires were burned. Members of the opposition in the Municipal Council of Tirana have not been allowed to enter the institution of the municipality.

For today's protest, the police have announced the measures they will take.

From 09:30 onwards, there will be a temporary traffic jam on the main boulevard near Tirana City Hall.

"For this reason, we suggest that alternative routes be used until the end of the rally, such as the Middle Ring and the Great Ring. During several previous rallies, held by the Alliance for the Protection of the Theatre, in the square in front of the Tirana City Hall, cases have been identified repeated opposition to the police forces, the use and throwing of Molotov cocktails and other objects, in the direction of the Tirana Municipality, seriously endangering the lives and health of the police officers and the participants in the gatherings. The Local Police Directorate of Tirana fully respects the right of citizens to organize and participate in peaceful gatherings. The police reiterates the call to organizers, leaders and participants in gatherings to respect the law and to distance themselves from any act of violence," the announcement states. /CNA
