Attack in Berlin/ One victim and 16 people injured

One person has died and at least 16 others have been injured after a vehicle attack during the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride Parade in Berlin.

According to German authorities, the incident took place in the Tiergarten area, where a vehicle drove into a crowd of participants. After the collision, one or more people are suspected of having fled the scene. Police are also investigating reports that some of the injured may have been attacked with cutting or stabbing tools.

Investigators are searching for 21-year-old Abdul B., who is suspected of being the perpetrator of the attack. Police have urged citizens to avoid approaching the suspect, as he is considered armed and dangerous. According to authorities, he is about 1.90 meters tall, with a slim build and black hair.

According to the police, the 21-year-old is known to law enforcement agencies due to suspected links to the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (ISIS). He was previously investigated for preparation of a terrorist act under Section 89a of the German Criminal Code and, according to the authorities, admitted to having had contacts with this organization. He has also previously served a prison sentence.

Although the full motives and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation, authorities suspect that the attack was carried out deliberately, with the intention of causing casualties.

The incident has sparked immediate reactions from top German leaders. Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the attack a "disgusting act," while President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said it was an attack on open society and coexistence. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt also strongly condemned the attack, vowing that authorities would quickly clarify the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice./ CNA
