On Thursday morning, the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, was arrested.
In total, the Special Court imposed 5 security measures, 3 "prison arrest" and 2 "house arrest". The operation was executed by the Tirana Police.
It is reported that the former minister was arrested after investigations into the abuse of EU funds.
According to sources, the abuses were committed when Beqaj was heading SASPAC (State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination).
The Special Court has imposed on the former minister the security measure of "obligation to appear" and "ban on travel abroad" for the sterilization concession.
On March 18, 2024, SPAK announced the closure of the investigations into the sterilization concession, while communicating the charges to 8 other people involved, among them Deputy Minister Klodian Rjepaj and businessman Ilir Rrapaj, who are in prison./ CNA
