"The Llogara tunnel opens on Friday"/ Balluku: Big day for Albanian tourism

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, inspected the works in the Llogara tunnel this Wednesday.

Balluku announced that the Llogara tunnel will be opened for travelers on Friday.

""We are in the final moments of completing the Llogara tunnel. It is predicted that the day after tomorrow, on the 5th, Friday, at 10 o'clock, will be the opening moment of this tunnel. Of course, work will continue on the construction site, as it is being delivered ahead of schedule, as we have already done with all our major infrastructure works, but the Llogara tunnel has another value for the history of Albanian infrastructure. I call it a kilometer stone, since it is a tunnel which is 5.9 kilometers long, and it is one of the infrastructure works of the important category in terms of tunnels even in Europe. It goes into long tunnels", she said.

The minister said that there will be a dedicated unit of the Road Police in the Llogara tunnel, which controls the flow of traffic, while radar checks will also be carried out.

"Given that this is a totally modern tunnel in terms of construction, but on the other hand you have to consider that it is an electronically, digitally managed tunnel. At the entrance, on the Dukat side, we have located the monitoring center of this tunnel, a center totally built on digitalization that in the future we think we will use artificial intelligence to manage all the flows of the tunnel, to control the road safety inside this tunnel", she said.

Balluku emphasized that during the winter the tunnel will be closed to continue with some other works.

"The Llogara tunnel was designed by a European company. We have opened an international competition. During the winter, the Llogara tunnel will be closed, to be reopened next season", the minister underlined./ CNA
