Journalist Klodian Tomorri has shed light on the deepening waste scandal in the Tirana region, emphasizing that the situation at the Sharra landfill has gotten out of control.

Invited to the MCN TV show, Tomorri stated that it is now necessary to find a private landfill to deposit urban waste, soils and inert materials.

According to him, the crisis is not only related to the failure of the Tirana incinerator project, for which over 100 million euros were paid without the facility ever being built, but also to the lack of institutional responsibility.

He emphasized that as of March 2022, waste management has no longer been the responsibility of any ministry.

"It's not just 'hand washing' with the incinerator, but it's also related to the future. What happened to the Tirana incinerator? The money was paid and it wasn't built. Waste has become a big problem there. The agency that administers the landfill has decided not to accept it anymore. Soils are no longer accepted and inert materials, they have started dumping them wherever they can find a place in the rivers, without criteria. We paid 100 million euros and the waste problem was not solved. Now we need to find a new place for urban waste, soils, inert materials, and so on.

Now the problem has arisen, what will happen. They created the National Waste Management Agency and gave it the responsibility of waste management. This agency will sign contracts to find solutions for waste. There are rumors that there may be a new license for the private landfill. It is this agency that will sign the contract.
