The largest runway in the Balkans, Vlora airport opens in May

Government number two Belinda Balluku has shared the news that Vlora Airport will open in the first days of May.

Balluku has declared that Airalbania will make its inaugural flight, touching down on the largest runway in the Balkans, 3.2 kilometers and a 22,000 square meter terminal.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that when the terminal project was initially launched, it only started with 5 thousand square meters and today the VIA consortium is building 22 thousand meters, as the volumes and forecasts for the coming decades speak of a considerable number of tourists, since the year 2025 itself, compared to 2024 in the first four months, has a 30% increase in the number of visitors.

"Today, we are only a few days away from the landing of the first plane at Vlora airport. In the first days of May, Airalbania will make its inaugural flight, touching the largest runway in the Balkans, 3.2 kilometers and 22 thousand square meters of terminal. That terminal, when the project was initially launched, started with only 5 thousand square meters and today the consortium at VIA is building 22 thousand meters, as the volumes and forecasts that we have for the coming decades speak of a considerable number of tourists, since the year 2025 itself, compared to 2024 in the first four months, has a 30% increase in the number of visitors.

And as you saw on the presentation map, because we say all the time that that airport is closer to Fier than to Vlora, but you saw with your own eyes how far it is from Pishporo where that promenade ends, the beautiful 21-kilometer promenade that will be the first thing, I believe, that we will build.

In the coming days we will have the opportunity to continue with the hearings and as Adelina said, we will ask the Municipality of Fier, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy will ask the Municipality of Fier to create the conditions to host here in the city a group of architects from AKPT, together with foreign consultants and to hold a workshop for several days, where the entire terrain will be supervised and to achieve and complete this project.

Then our commitment is that the Albanian Development Fund, as it has done in other areas of our country based on its program for economic and social cohesion, will begin to take the first steps of construction in the area. And of course the first steps have to do with all those facilities that are dedicated to the public, starting with the 21-kilometer promenade, continuing then with that pier, which ends in a runway, where of course all the conditions will be created for visitors coming from the sea.

As Adelina said, on the other hand, conditions will also be created for anchoring small ships, which can turn the area around, can give the area a different impact, so not only tourism that comes from land, but also tourism that comes from the sea. Continuing then with all those recreational places that have to do with young people, youth and children and of course with the elderly. Keep in mind that day camps, which are not necessarily daily, but can also be youth accommodation camps, are today a very big trend that has given Croatia another place in elite tourism.

Camps built in green areas on the Croatian coast, intended for children, have given Croatia a priority and a step ahead of other countries, such as Montenegro, or other places on the Dalmatian coast, precisely because it has chosen this type of tourism, accommodation tourism for children's holiday camps, also equipping them with educational packages related to the environment, agriculture, etc.

There was talk here of an agricultural market, or a market with local products. Albania, in addition to the coast and all the other beauties it offers, is becoming internationally known for its organic products and for its extraordinary culinary art, incomparable to other neighbors in the region. And, if this is a very powerful element of our tourism, it is undoubtedly an element that we will seek to strongly bring to the surface in this entire landscape created in the project between Seman and Darëzeza.

"While we will continue with the planning of the territory, we will continue with the detailing of this master plan, which will then receive the approval of the National Council of Territory, while the ADF will begin to prepare its budgets to address all these units that I mentioned a little earlier. Keep in mind that the private sector will start all the work in parallel to start and design areas dedicated to the hotel industry and of course for restaurants, bars and everything else related to recreation," said Balluku./ CNA
