In competition with PSD, Albpetrol specialist dismissed from duty

After her name was announced on the lists of candidates for deputies of the Social Democratic Party in the Fier district, Limonera Bozha received a congratulatory call from her superiors at Albpetrol, along with a request to resign.

Bozha, a specialist at the state-owned oil company Albpetrol, told BIRN that after refusing to resign, she was dismissed from her position on April 22 in a decision she disputes as unlawful and infringing on her right to be elected. Bozha has also filed a complaint with the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination regarding the dismissal decision.

The Constitution of Albania recognizes the right of every citizen over 18 years of age to vote and be elected, while the Electoral Code limits the right to run for office by renouncing high public positions, which does not include low- and middle-level civil servants.

Bozha told BIRN that she had requested annual leave after refusing to resign, but faced a disciplinary committee for her absences from work, which she claims are related to health problems and justifies with the relevant medical report.

"I asked for a response by email several times about the annual leave, but instead I received a letter asking me to appear before the disciplinary committee. My absences from work do not correspond to those that the directorate submitted to the committee, while later I was absent for health reasons confirmed in a medical report," Bozha further claimed.

Asked about the reasons for the dismissal of PSD candidate for deputy, Limonera Bozha, Albpetrol director, Eltar Deda, and chief of staff, Albana Kulari, refused to comment, requesting that we resort to official channels.

"Please, I cannot provide any clarification," said Deda, adding that he had given the relevant file to Ms. Bozha's lawyer.

"So that we don't rush into claims that are not based on facts, I invite you to contact us through official channels and you will definitely receive all the necessary information," said Kulari, who, according to Bozha, had requested her resignation over the phone.

Bozha's dismissal is the second in the Fier region, following the announcement of the lists of candidates for deputies of Tom Doshi's Social Democratic party - an undeclared ally of the Socialist Party with which it has entered a collision course in these elections.

Other PSD candidates or their family members were threatened with dismissal from their jobs after the announcement of the lists./ Reporter.al
