Pope Francis' passing/Saturday a day of mourning in Albania

The Council of Ministers has decided today to declare April 26 a national day of mourning, as a sign of respect for the passing of Pope Francis.

As part of the declaration of a day of mourning, the national flag will be lowered to half-mast in all institutions. All television stations have also been invited to play funeral music.

NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING DECLARED

In accordance with Article 100 of the Constitution and point 4 of Article 4 of Law No. 8926, dated 22.7.2002, “On the shape and dimensions of the national flag, the content of the national anthem, the shape and dimensions of the coat of arms of the Republic of Albania and the manner of their use”, as amended, upon the proposal of the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers

DECIDED:

1. Declaring a national day of mourning on Saturday, April 26, 2025, as a sign of sorrow, respect and gratitude for the Holy Father, Pope Francis, who passed away after an illness.

2. In all state and public institutions, the national flag should be lowered to half-mast.

3. All public and private radio and television stations are invited to broadcast funeral music during the national day of mourning.

4. All state and public institutions are charged with the implementation of this decision.

This decision takes effect immediately.
