The Saudi crown prince is invited to visit Great Britain

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been invited to visit Great Britain, the Saudi Arabian embassy has told the BBC.

A spokesman said the prime minister was looking forward to meeting the crown prince "at the earliest opportunity".

It would be the prince's first visit to the UK since the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

The invitation was first reported by the Financial Times and The Times newspapers.

A Downing Street spokesman said Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke earlier with the crown prince, with the leaders discussing their commitment to developing trade and investment relations between the two countries, as well as strengthening defense and security cooperation.

It is still not clear whether the prince has officially accepted the invitation, but it is known that he wants to come to Great Britain./ CNA
