High-security prisoner dies at QSUT

A high-security prisoner passed away in the early hours of the morning at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center.

According to the announcement of the General Directorate of Prisons, convict Mihal Pavllo Mërkuri died as a result of cardiac arrest and head hemorrhage.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "attempted intentional murder" and "unauthorized production and possession of weapons and ammunition."

Today, at around 04:35, at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center (QSUNT), high-security convict Mihal Pavllo Mërkuri, admitted to the Central Resuscitation, Surgery Pavilion, passed away.

Death was caused by cardiac arrest and head hemorrhage.

Mihal Pavllo Mërkuri, born on 25.01.1979, born and residing in Saranda, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "attempted intentional murder" and "unauthorized production and possession of weapons and ammunition".

He was extradited from Greece on 20.06.2023 and transferred to the Burrel Penitentiary Institution on 15.02.2025, from the Korça Penitentiary Institution.

The deceased was admitted to the QSUT on 18.01.2026, at around 20:21, and underwent surgery due to internal hemorrhage (hemoperitoneum).

All legal procedures are being implemented in the case. / CNA
