Meta complains about his cell: The toilet had no lights, my 20-liter exercise

The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, addressed an open letter today to the Helsinki Committee, regarding several complaints about the conditions in which he is held in Prison 313 in Tirana.

According to Meta, there are several "mysteries" in the behavior and services in the cells, such as the lack of electricity in the cell's toilet or even the lack of a gym for physical exercise.

“Honorable members of the Helsinki Committee!

I am forced, because today I was completely absurdly prevented from delivering this letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Albanian Helsinki Committee, Ms. Skëndaj, with my signature through the services of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, to the leaders of the Freedom Party, who waited for hours outside.

Since this was made impossible, I am forced to make it public for everyone.

First of all, I would like to thank you for sending your representative, Mr. Zylyftar Bregu of the Helsinki Committee, to visit me in my cell, here at the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, after 18 months.

Secondly, I thank you that only after your representative found out that there was no light in the toilet of this cell, did the electricians immediately come and install it, as they had not been allowed to do this work since October 23, 2024, when I became a resident of the Penitentiary Institution that bears a Heroic name like Jordan Misja.

Of course, this is a "minor" negligence, which I have never raised publicly, as these ordinary behaviors do not surprise or bother me, but not even your representative would believe it if I said it publicly without seeing it with his own eyes.

"There are many other such tricks that your representative can tell you about, such as puncturing 20-liter plastic cans to at least slightly interfere with my physical exercises in the cell, since there is no gym here," the letter emphasizes, among other things./CNA
