Against the "TID" project/ Residents of Durrës, protest in front

Residents of Durrës protested today in front of the municipality against the "TID" project, for the revitalization and urban redevelopment of several areas of the city.

Residents have spoken out against the project and have warned that they will not leave their homes, which they said are over 100 years old.

"We have been verbally informed to apply for social housing. We feel humiliated and we feel like loot. We don't care about the value of the apartment they will give us. We are not giving up our house. We are against the demolition of our apartments that are over 100 years old. Demolishing these apartments means erasing the history of the city ," she said.

Another resident further added that they are demanding an investigative commission, while holding the mayor, Emirjana Sakon, responsible for the situation.

"We are here to tell the municipality that we are not for social housing. We do not agree with the plan. We have requested an investigative commission and they do not accept it. I hold the mayor, Emirjana Sakon, responsible. She has no right to bring people out to find out whether or not we are in our homes. They should urgently establish an investigative commission. We are against this project and social housing ," said the resident.

The residents were joined in the protest by Democratic Party MP Igli Cara. He said that the neighborhood where the project is planned to be developed is an indigenous neighborhood, while emphasizing that properties cannot be taken from anyone.

"I join the residents' protest. This issue is not only for the residents, but for all of Durrës. When we talk about an indigenous neighborhood, it is a property of both the city of Durrës and the nation. Properties cannot be taken from anyone. Talking about TID should be addressed more broadly. It is a development project, but if there is abuse in the name of development, we will react. TID is coming, but who are the actors in this issue. But in the end, what will be taken? When a development process is given, a value for the project must also be given", said Cara. /CNA
