Draft/ Here's who benefits from the criminal amnesty

The draft of the criminal amnesty for prisoners, announced in December by the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, is published. The amnesty will benefit 380 people.

The published draft states that the people who benefit from the amnesty are several categories.

Male convicts who have been sentenced to up to 3 years in prison or any other milder punishment benefit from the amnesty.

The amnesty also benefits women sentenced to up to 4 years in prison and any other type of lighter punishment.

Another category that benefits from the criminal amnesty are male convicts who, by the date the law came into force, had up to 4 years of prison remaining unserved.

Also benefiting are male convicts who are 60 years old or older by the date the law enters into force, while for female convicts this age is 50 years old.

The amnesty also benefits convicted prisoners who are 18 years old or younger on the date the law enters into force.

However, there is a category of people who do not benefit from amnesty even if they meet one of the criteria listed above.

Those persons who have intentionally committed crimes against life or humanity, sexual crimes, or economic crimes do not benefit from criminal amnesty.
