The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, delivered his speech at the National Council for European Integration on food security.

Balla stated that the new food law constitutes key steps for building a modern food safety system. He further added that today in the European Union there is a positive expectation for the pace at which Albania is negotiating and delivering results.

Among other things, Balla added that in 2026 there will be a new approach regarding the control of law enforcement.

"The new law on official controls, aligned with the EU regulation, and the work on the new law on food constitute key steps for building a modern food safety system. Albania is on the right track, it just needs to change gear more quickly in this strategic direction. Food safety is part of national security and should be seen with this focus by everyone. This should also be reflected in the approach we should have in the relationship with the negotiation process. Today in the EU, whether in the EP, CoE, or EC, there is a positive expectation for the pace at which Albania is negotiating and delivering results. The Prime Minister has rightly asked the Minister and the Assembly to achieve concrete results in the field of food safety. We remain committed as the Assembly and the National Integration Council to accelerating the laws on food safety. In 2026, there will be a new approach regarding the control of the implementation of laws. Addressing the EC recommendations in the field of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary is a common task of all lawmakers, despite the fact that we have a shortage of Democrats these days. There is no political party in the Assembly that is against membership. It is necessary to close the chapters within 2027, with our political goal to conclude membership within this decade. I like to say that on November 28, 2030, our flag will be raised in Brussels alongside the flags of the EU countries ," said Balla. /CNA
