The Prosecutors' Association has reacted to the recent debate on judges' salaries between Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Judges' Association.
According to her, public debates on issues related to the justice system should be conducted in a responsible, balanced manner and with respect for the constitutional role of magistrates.
The reaction emphasizes that any form of rhetoric that aims to turn public opinion against magistrates does not serve the strengthening of the rule of law.
The Association of Prosecutors of the Republic of Albania joins the public positions and research already exhaustively argued by the associations of judges before the Constitutional Court. It is emphasized that any legal change that leads to a regression in previously recognized standards and a reduction in the salaries of magistrates constitutes a violation of constitutional guarantees.
Reaction of the Prosecutors' Association
The Association of Prosecutors of the Republic of Albania, in the context of recent developments and the public debate about the constitutional judgment on the salaries of magistrates, in fulfillment of its mission and activity, considers it necessary to express an official position in order to protect the principles of the rule of law and the independence of the justice system.

The Association of Prosecutors of the Republic of Albania joins the public positions and research already exhaustively argued by the associations of judges before the Constitutional Court. We emphasize that any legal change that leads to a regression in previously recognized standards and a reduction in the salaries of magistrates constitutes a violation of constitutional guarantees.
In a democratic state governed by the rule of law, the independence of the Constitutional Court and the justice system as a whole constitutes a fundamental principle, which must be respected by all institutional and public actors, especially in sensitive phases prior to decision-making. In this context, the constitutional trial initiated by judges' associations must end up unaffected by any external pressure or instrumentalization of public opinion.
The Prosecutors' Association of the Republic of Albania expresses its full confidence in the Constitutional Court as the only legitimate authority to give the final word in this process, and supports every institutional and civil effort aimed at strengthening the constitutional order, the independence of the justice system and the protection of democratic standards in the country./ CNA
