The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, has reacted to the fire that engulfed the Archeological Park of Finiq this Thursday.

Gonxhja declares on social networks that the flames burned the vegetation surrounding the hill of the Archeological Park of Finiq, as well as the two sides of the road leading to the Park, from the water tank to the ticket office.

He says that none of the monuments of the Archeological Park of Finiq, which can be visited by visitors, were affected by the fire.

The minister emphasizes that even the ticket office of the Archeological Park of Finiq was not affected by the fires.

From the inspection carried out in the Archeological Park of Finiq, on 08.08.2024, at 18:00, on the situation created by the fires in the apartments near the Municipality of Finiq, it was found that:

The fires started in the north-west of the Archaeological Park, near the road that enters the territory of the village of Finiq, the road that comes from the village of Blerimas.

In the area where the fire first started, there are olive groves planted by the residents of the area, as well as residents' homes. Then the fire spread to the hill of the Archeological Park of Finiq, in the west-east direction.

Then, due to the wind in that area, the direction of the fire went in the north-east direction, including the entire hill of the Archaeological Park, in the north direction. Then the fire spread in the north-south direction, burning the vegetation that surrounds the hill of the Archeological Park of Finiq, as well as the two sides of the road leading to the Park, from the water tank to the ticket office.

However, according to the inspections carried out, it turns out that:

None of the monuments of the Finic Archeological Park, which can be visited by visitors, were affected by the fire. This is because all the monuments have had a security perimeter, cleared of vegetation, thanks to the work of the employees of the Archaeological Park, and for this fact, the fire has not advanced to risk damaging them.

Also, the ticket office of the Archeological Park of Finiq was not affected by the fires, as the ticket office has a security perimeter, cleared of vegetation, but also, the ticket office is equipped with the relevant fire protection tools.

Another factor that has influenced the non-penetration of fires in the monuments of the Archaeological Park, are the routes inside the Park, where there is no presence of vegetation in any of them, which would help the fire to penetrate!

Currently, there is no source of fire in the Archeological Park of Finiq, in the visitable monuments of this Park, as it became possible to extinguish it through intervention from the air by helicopter, from the ground with fire extinguishers, where the employees of the Sector were also helpful Saranda (under DRTK Vlora) and the Archeological Park of Finiq.
