"The true face of tourism"/ DP denounces: Wastewater discharges into
Floriana Garo

The Democratic Party has denounced the pollution of the beaches and the discharge of sewage into the seas.

Today, in a statement to the media, he talked about the data of the report showing that the quality of the waters is lower compared to the previous 7 years.

According to the PD, the number of stations of category D, bad water quality, has increased for this entire period.

The report states that the main factor of coastal water pollution remains direct and indirect untreated sewage discharges.

Spokeswoman Floriana Garo said that this is the real face of tourism, not what Edi Rama, Mirela Kumbaro and government spokespeople are propagating.

"The vast majority of the waters of the Albanian beaches, according to a monitoring of the National Environment Agency for the year 2023, have deteriorated compared to previous years.

This means more polluted water, more risk of infections, and a decrease in the quality of life for Albanians and foreigners.

According to the monitoring report, the number of stations of category A - Very good water quality, for the monitored beaches for the year 2023 is lower compared to the previous 7 years from 2016 to 2022.

Meanwhile, the number of stations of category D - bad water quality has been increasing for this entire period.

The report states that the main factor of coastal water pollution remains direct and indirect untreated sewage discharges.

The most polluted are the beaches of Durrës, which for the year 2023, according to the bacteriological results, have 11 monitoring points in category D, that is. of bad quality, alongside 7 points of category B, and 3 points of category C.

In a general summation, all the country's beaches from north to south have had a decrease in quality ie. increase in pollution.

The Democratic Party has continuously denounced water pollution, the discharge of sewage into seas, rivers and lakes as a result of the mismanagement, corruption and greed of the central and local government.

We have also condemned a government decision to force hotels and resorts on the coast to buy sewage plants at a cost of over 30,000 euros. This is despite the fact that they have a contract with UKT, which is the public entity that must do the recycling, sewerage or addressing of their waste water.

Forcing businesses to buy private plants is not an attempt to clean up the environment, but done for the interests of private companies connected to power.

Unfortunately, some owners have found as a way of reaction an irresponsible action, which has been allowed by municipal and government corruption. They paid 10,000 euros in cash and poured the waste water into the sea.

This is the real face of tourism, not what Edi Rama, Mirela Kumbaro and government spokespeople are promoting," said Garo./ CNA
