The former elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, was welcomed with a party and fireworks in Himara, after his release from prison.

Also present at Beler's reception was the Greek ambassador, Kostandina Kamitsi, who raised questions about the arrest and punishment of the MEP.

"Dear fellow travelers, dear friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the invitation today. I feel privileged to be present at the birthday of MEP Beleri. The one you made an MEP in 2023 and MEP in 2024 with your vote. You know better than anyone what Beleri went through to get what he deserved from Himara's vote of confidence. Many aspects of this matter will still be questions for us to answer. Why was he kept in custody, why was he not given the mandate and why was he sentenced?", said Kamitsi.

A speech was also given by Beleri, who claimed that his imprisonment was unjust.

"Dear Himarians. From Vranishti to Borsh, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support these 15 months. Himara's elections are a great honor for me. They imprisoned me unjustly, accused me unjustly, and deputies came here unjustly. They have no reason to abuse and blackmail you", he said, while raising accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the mayor of Himara, Vangjel Tavo.

"They are trying to divide us, but thank you for resisting. Do not believe those who lie to you that they will solve your problems. They are the problem, Edi Rama and Vangjel Tavo", declared Beleri./ CNA
