Alimehmeti "strikes" the government/ "Blocking diplomas violates

Doctor Ilir Alihmehmeti, member of the municipal council of Tirana, has opposed the government's decision that forces medical students to serve 5 years for the Albanian state, depriving them of the opportunity to obtain diplomas.

Alimehmeti said in a TV appearance that the government is asking to restore forced labor and this, according to him, goes against the principles.

The doctor claims that restrictions on students are against the Western principle of free movement and affect the Bologna Charter regarding

"The government is looking for forced labor. This is against the Western principle of free movement. The Bologna Charter is also affected in relation to studies, because tomorrow's labor market is Europe. This means that we have opportunities and Albanians should be offered health care, but by improving the conditions and not by compulsion. Even if this is accomplished, a problem arises as the employee is forced to do the work. It is going against the principles that would decide this job.

Let's not forget that the state does not only subsidize the medical student with taxes. This kind of logic that we pay taxes for this service and you can't leave can be used for many aspects. Since 2018, there is a report and it says that the problems remain the same, for which nothing has been done", he declared.

Alimehmeti stressed that the blocking of students' diplomas "is a step backwards in terms of democracy and freedoms"./ CNA.al
