Exploitation of children/ Municipality and police, action plan

Based on the phenomenon of children in street situations, a situation which exposes children to forms of violence, abuse, exploitation and trafficking, the Local Police Directorate of Tirana, in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana, has drawn up a joint plan of measures for the prevention and the treatment of this phenomenon in the capital.

This plan of measures aims to protect children from all forms of abuse and exploitation in street situations, identify and provide immediate assistance, and refer cases to competent bodies.

It also aims to improve inter-institutional cooperation for the prevention of the phenomenon of begging by children on the street, increasing everyone's awareness of this phenomenon, as well as the implementation of the law on the criminal proceedings of parents or legal guardians of children, if they are found cases of their use.

Within this plan of measures, special working groups have been set up with employees of the Tirana Local Police Directorate and the commissariats depending on it, of the Field Teams of Social Services and of the Municipality of Tirana, who have a key role in the progress of this the process.

These working groups are monitoring the field, in order to identify, assess the needs, provide immediate assistance, refer cases and bring forward the legal responsibility of the responsible persons.

Controls against this illegality will continue.

The Local Directorate of the Tirana Police invites citizens to call the toll-free numbers 112 (Police) and Alo 116-111 (Children's Counseling Line) if they find cases of children in street situations. It also appeals to all parents and guardians of children not to use them for this activity, as they will face the law./ CNA
