Unusual/ Play-off draw, Albania could play two matches in Poland

The Albanian national team has learned its path to the 2026 World Cup play-offs, where it will face Poland away in the semi-finals on March 26.

If Albania qualifies, it will play the final on March 31 against the winner of Ukraine-Sweden, again as a traveling team. The situation has become unusual because Ukraine, due to war, plays its matches as a host in Poland.

This creates the possibility that Albania will be forced to play both of its play-off matches in Poland. If Ukraine does not find another host country, it could be hosting in Poland and against Poland itself.

For Albania, there is a scenario where the eventual final will be played in the same venue as the semi-final. For the losing teams, FIFA foresees a friendly match with no competitive value.
