A news story has emerged today from the media outlets that support the arrested mayor and promote him, which have reported that the Council of Europe authorities have requested a meeting with Erion Veliaj.

In fact, this is a fraud. There is no Council of Europe authority that has requested to meet Erion Veliaj.

CNA has officially addressed and received an official response that there is no request from the Council of Europe Authorities for a meeting with Mr. Veliaj.

According to official sources, it is the latter who has asked SPAK to meet with the EC Authorities in order to exercise his duty as Mayor of Tirana.

Erion Veliaj continues to be treated in prison as the mayor of the capital, when in fact the Constitutional Court has said that his dismissal is illegal, but he is arrested and held in prison on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses and will be tried for them.

The dismissal was overturned by the Constitutional Court, but this does not mean that Erion Veliaj should get out of prison and go meet whoever he wants and however he wants, including EC officials, who in fact have not made any request to meet the mayor of Tirana./ CNA
