Porto Romano Project/ Rama: We are ready to move to an aggressive plan to start

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his podcast "Flasim", spoke about the project of the new commercial and military port in Porto Romano, describing it as a strategic project of regional and European importance. He emphasized that media information often covers the issue with "disinformation" and misinterpretations.

Rama explained that the goal of the project is to reorganize the country's port network, change the urban function of Durrës, and develop tourism, by transferring commercial activities to Porto Romano.

He emphasized that the new port will comply with European Union and NATO standards and will serve as a strategic hub for Albania and the region, including the functioning of Corridor 8.

Rama underlined that the project has passed all technical checks and is on the table of NATO, although it has not been accepted by all political and commercial factors. According to Rama, the new port will increase Albania's logistical capacities and trade competitiveness in the Mediterranean, placing the country in a key position in the connection between East and West.

He also announced that, due to the challenges encountered during the tendering procedures and the withdrawal of foreign companies, the government is ready to pursue a rapid and aggressive plan to begin construction of the port, while also guaranteeing the necessary budget for the project.

"I have a special note regarding an issue that has received media attention and that, like all other issues in this world, when they receive media attention in the time we live in, are covered by a great fog of nonsense, fantasies, stupidity, evil and in a single word, disinformation. I am talking about the issue of the new commercial and military port of Porto Romano.

Now, we are, not in the right, but in our duty to reorganize the country's port network, to change the urban function of the Durrës area; to save the second largest city in the country and the first tourist city of Albania on the coastline from gangrene right in the middle of its urban organism, which is the old port; to increase our logistical and geopolitical processing capacities, complying with the standards of the European Union and NATO through the construction of a new strategic node for, not just Albania, but for the region and for the functioning of Corridor 8 and in the meantime, all of this is drowned out by the river of nonsense that Albanians are forced to face every day, every hour, every minute, whenever they have contact with 700 political and media pots.

The idea of ??transferring the commercial port to Porto Romano and transforming the current port of Durrës into a new function of a powerful engine of the new tourism industry is absolutely the most logical solution, impossible in previous times because of Albania, and completely necessary for the other Albania that we are building day by day.

The new port in Porto Romano is not just an infrastructure project. I repeat, it is a strategic regional and European project linked to the vital functioning of Corridor 8 and other logistical nodes, which also include the dry ports of Pristina and Skopje.

As I emphasized in the past days, in this process there has been, as the cycles of the media's steam boilers rise, no concern expressed by our allies, neither by the United States nor by the European Union, on the contrary, the project designed by the largest company in the world, with an undisputed reputation, Royal Haskoning, is on the NATO table. It has passed all the technical filters and now awaits entry, together with the group of several other large projects, into the political filter precisely because it is a project with a considerable geopolitical value, but of course, I have said and I repeat that not everyone loves this new port, not everyone welcomes it. Internal and external factors, starting from underground factors related to trafficking to political factors and third factors outside the borders of Albania, have no way of welcoming it because in the best case, this is a new power that enters the commercial and maritime competition of the Mediterranean and in the most sensitive case, this is a factor that participates from, let's say, the table, where the benefits of all maritime and commercial activity are distributed in this part of the world where we live.

A new port of this size, with this ambition, takes Albania to another level on the logistics map of the region and turns it into a country that also possesses a strategic transport hub in the middle of Europe, as a connecting point between East and West.

"I don't know how it could be clearer than that. And finally, I want to say that, despite the difficulties the project has encountered, despite the two unfinished processes at the last second, despite the withdrawal of the company that was very close to signing the contract and was only expected to present the financial offer, but which stated that in the conditions of the crisis and the increase in prices it did not see it possible to provide a financial offer, we are ready to move on to another fast and aggressive plan to guarantee the start of the construction of the port for which we have also made available the entire necessary budget," said Rama.
