Albania presents progress report on gender equality at the UN

Albania presented at the 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women the voluntary report on the implementation of the Adopted Conclusions, presenting the progress made in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.

During her speech, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, emphasized that at a time when women's rights are being challenged in many countries around the world, strengthening gender equality remains an important test of the quality of democracies and the functioning of institutions.

"Albania has undertaken important legal and institutional reforms in line with international commitments and the European integration process. One of the main developments is the adoption of the new Law on Gender Equality in 2025, which provides for a minimum representation threshold of 30% and aims to achieve full gender equality by 2035. Significant progress has also been made in the representation of women in politics and decision-making. Currently, women represent 35% of the Albanian Parliament, over 40% of the government and more than 40% of municipal councilors," said Sala.

Sala reconfirmed Albania's commitment to continue efforts to guarantee the full and equal participation of women and girls in public life and decision-making, as a key element for sustainable democracy and inclusive development./CNA
