The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, commented today on the opposition's situation before the start of the new legislature.

In a television interview, Mediu stated that the results of the May 11 elections showed that a divided opposition cannot win and for this reason an internal analysis is needed by the Democratic Party itself, but also by the ASHM coalition.

Mediu added that a better and more united opposition organization is needed, despite the problems within the opposition itself.

"The opposition managed to provide additional materials to ODHIR, the EP or the OSCE Assembly so that the final report would be as complete as possible.
But all avenues must be pursued to contest the elections and the DP is on its way in this direction. There is also an analysis that the opposition must do internally about the strengths and weaknesses during this campaign. The margin for election manipulation was extremely large.

The opposition's stance on the Electoral Code should have been different, it did not create an open competition, it created two groups, one that takes the mandate without competition and the other that fights. For an opposition, this is harmful, because its strength is its relationship with citizens.

I was a supporter of the immigrant vote, it was not a matter of spirit but of infrastructure which was controlled by the SP.
The opposition managed to create a positive relationship with the citizens.
The arbiter of these elections, the internationals have said that we do not have free and fair elections so the result is manipulated.
The competition of many opposition parties was a mistake since the votes that were not translated into mandates went to the SP.
I think that the opposition needs to judge correctly on the manipulation of the elections and on the political and structural functioning of the opposition.
