Former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati stated today that Albania is under the protection of NATO's Article 5, but security should not be taken for granted.

Invited to an interview on Euronews Albania, Bushati also commented on the country's situation regarding war developments, while denying the possibility of danger for Albania, saying that no siren can sound.

Bushati said that the goal of allocating 5% of the budget to defense is a positive step.

"No siren can be heard in Albania. In order not to continue with the modernization of military structures and coding, where we have given in. There is a big debate in Europe. There is an imposition of the green agenda, which was also reflected in that of the Western Balkans. The transition from industrialization to green industrialization is a big challenge. There is a big clash that the money is not enough, most countries now have to go to war. My personal position is in support of this thing, that the investment in security, which is done for oneself and not for the enemy or for the neighbor. If we fill 5% for these areas, money should be removed from the budget for education, schools, etc. It will be difficult for us to make up the gap as long as money is needed for this investment. There has been no greater pride for me than representing the country in NATO and you have something to learn from them. The fact that Article 5 of NATO protects us makes us feel good, but we should not take security for granted. "Of course," Bushati said. /CNA
