The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, declared today that Albanians are facing a very critical situation, because there is no longer a parliamentary system.

In his speech at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting, Mediu stated that there is an autocracy in the country, which never holds free and fair elections.

"Everyone talks about independent justice and we are in favor of independent justice, but its use as a political weapon against the opposition, arrests, prosecutions and the attempt to bring all opposition leaders to court before the elections does not convince me that Albania is different from Georgia. And here we are talking about a NATO member country, a country with prospects towards the EU. But it seems that we do not meet either the minimum standards of NATO or those of the EU. We must open our eyes and speak openly. I do not want some people to read only half of the sentence on one side, and others the other half on the other. Some read from left to right like the Latins, and some from right to left like the Arabs. Let's tell the truth as it is: these elections were a farce. And we are facing a very critical situation in Albania, because we no longer have a parliamentary system. We have an autocracy. And an autocracy never holds free and fair elections," said Mediu. ./CNA
