Persecution against Ndregjonii's candidacy, while Berisha's Ballanca remains in office in violation of the law

Persecution against Ndregjonii's candidacy, while Berisha's Ballanca

In a public statement, Ilir Vata, chairman of the "Party for Denied Rights", has opposed the candidacy of Besim Ndregjoni launched by Berisha simply as a signal of a new bargain with the Socialist Party.
While Rama and Berisha pretend to be looking for a consensual candidate, Erinda Ballanca continues to receive a salary as ombudsman when her mandate has ended in July 2022.
The law on the ombudsman is clear. The mandate of the ombudsman is for a fixed term and the term is related to the date of appointment to the post. In the event of a vacancy, the function of the ombudsman is performed by the oldest Commissioner in office.
Erinda Ballanca has been exercising a duty for 3 years that by law has ended 3 years ago, but to continue receiving her salary, it is enough to leave the office for bargaining with the head of the law commission Bushka. This is the ombudsman who organizes gala evenings. With a term of office that has expired in 3 years.
How will Mrs. Ballanca read the rights of the people when she is in office without any legal authority and she can only achieve this by behaving well so that the majority can kick her out of office or with the Supreme Audit Office.
And apparently the bargaining for the division of posts continues. Berisha has just opened the next bargaining for the replacement of Ballanca, whose term expired 3 years ago.
Meanwhile, the party of the persecuted believes that they should also be asked:
"Berisha wants to put a former official of the dictatorship at the head of the People's Advocate - an act that insults democracy and its victims.

The Party of Denied Rights (PDM) strongly condemns Sali Berisha's attempt to place at the head of the People's Advocate institution a figure who was the leader of the Professional Unions of the Albanian People's Party - a structure directly linked to oppression and the dictatorial state.

This is an unacceptable action and another indication that Berisha has never reflected on his role in the previous regime, nor on the damage he has caused to the politically persecuted and to the very foundations of democracy.

Unfortunately, today we have individuals who, wearing the mantle of victimhood, pretend to be persecuted, while in reality they have been collaborators of the regime. These individuals are a disaster for Albanian democracy, because they use the pain and history of the persecuted for personal and political gain.

The DP has figures with integrity and high intellectual capacity who can represent the people with dignity in this independent institution. But the election of a pretender as "persecuted" is an attempt to taint the process.

We call on Prime Minister Edi Rama not to vote a sinner as the head of the Ombudsman.

Sali Berisha let Lirak Bejko burn in the fire. He never helped the politically persecuted, he left them without compensation, without integration and in misery. And today, he dares to mock them again.

Prime Minister Rama, while not perfect, has taken important steps to recognize and compensate those who have been persecuted. We are convinced that he will not allow a figure with a dark past to be placed at the head of such an important and sensitive institution as the Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman should be the voice of citizens, not the extension of a dictatorship restored under a democratic guise.

Chairman of the PDM,

Ilir Vata
