The government's number two, Belinda Balluku, presented in the Assembly the draft law on the use of biofuels and other renewable fuels for transportation.

"Today, by taking a new step, with the approval of this draft law, we will be even closer to all the demands and commitments we have made in the negotiation process for EU membership," declared Balluku.

Balluku announced that the draft law determines the minimum annual quantity on the market of biofuels and other renewable materials for transportation, which meet the sustainability criteria and greenhouse gas emissions criteria for biofuels.

He further added that the use of renewable energy requires support and education of all users.

She said that the draft law will be accompanied by a sub-legal package which will regulate the monitoring and control mechanisms for the application of the biofuel inclusion obligation as well as the mechanisms for licensing new biofuel production and selection activities.

Balluku said that the objective of the law, in addition to achieving a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, is also the possibility of developing commercial activities in the production of biofuels and the creation of a new sector, which connects the agricultural sector with that of renewable energy.

Among other things, she emphasized that this draft law is part of the acts that aim to align domestic legislation with the European climate package, such as the law on the energy performance of buildings, the law on the energy sector that will soon be forwarded to parliamentary committees, or even the law on energy efficiency./ CNA
