Pogradec welcomed for the first time the OSCE Ambassador to Albania, Michel Tarran, who held an official visit to the city and a meeting with the High Judicial Council. The focus of the visit was the presentation of a new program that foresees the opening of information offices in every court in the country, an initiative that aims to increase transparency and public access to the justice system.
During his stay in Pogradec, the Ambassador also met with the Mayor, where they discussed the development potential of the city and the surrounding region. The Ambassador praised the nature and resources the area offers, but emphasized the need for more promotion, especially at the international level.
" I came to Pogradec for a meeting with the High Judicial Council. The new program foresees the opening of information offices in every court, which will guarantee transparency with the public.
It is my first time visiting Pogradec. In the meeting with the mayor, we talked about the city and the region, which has great development potential. You are lucky to have these extraordinary natural resources, with the lake, the mountains, the border points, which are also a development opportunity. You have great potential, but still not very well known. There is a lot of work to promote Pogradec, both for foreign visitors and for your region , "said Tarran.
The OSCE is also supporting Local Security Councils, an initiative where representatives of institutions and civil society cooperate to address security issues in the community. According to the ambassador, security is a shared responsibility, and the role of citizens and local organizations is essential in this process.
In the future, the OSCE also envisages the development of other programs in support of women, the local economy, cultural heritage and tourism.
" We, as an OSCE presence, have several projects. We are supporting the Local Security Councils, a very interesting initiative where several institutions and representatives of civil society meet to discuss security problems in municipalities. Security is not only the duty of law enforcement bodies, but of everyone. Civil society organizations in this context can play an important role, by collecting information and drawing attention to specific issues, both in cities and villages. We are also thinking about how to develop other support programs for women, the economy, cultural heritage, tourism, etc. ," said the ambassador.
The visit of the OSCE Ambassador to Pogradec marks another step towards strengthening cooperation between local institutions and international partners.
With concrete projects and ongoing support, the goal remains clear to build safer, more transparent, and more developed communities for all citizens./ CNA
