"Let's turn Albania into an academic destination"/ Manastirliu at

The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, participated today in the forum of the "Gjon Durrahium" Higher Education League, where she emphasized the Government's vision to turn Albania into a competitive academic destination in the region and beyond.

"I am pleased to be at this next forum of the League of Higher Education, where I am very pleased to note that milestones have been set regarding another stage of development of public and non-public higher education, also in relation to the dimension that the league itself is establishing in the higher education ecosystem in Albania. What we are experiencing today in the higher education ecosystem is rapid development in terms of the dimension of internationalization and profiling of universities. Private universities are an important part of higher education. They play a complementary role and we move in step, thus developing better standards of education, making higher education the engine of social development, the engine of economic development, creating the opportunity for higher education to respond to the challenges of the time, to create and build human resources capable of responding to the labor market not only nationally but also globally. Today we have foreign universities that have opened their branches in Albania, the College of Europe that finalized a few days ago and the first academic year on the campus of "Tirana, while we have opened for the first time a university that is of the new model, the University of Distance Studies of Spain that has opened its campus in Gjirokastra. We are working hard to have another prestigious European university, the University of Compiegne of France that will open its campus at the Polytechnic University of Tirana," said Manastirliu.

In her speech, Minister Manastirliu also focused on promoting scientific research and innovation:

"Universities are the basis of scientific research and as such they should make even more use of their potential in terms of scientific research, as these are the milestones that create the high standard we want for our universities. Even private universities have managed to absorb funds from the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation. There are 50 projects during 2023–2025 that have been absorbed by private universities. This year alone, we have financed more than 180 scientific research and innovation projects, some of which are dedicated to opening new laboratories by developing and supporting the scientific research infrastructure," said Manastirliu.

The Minister also focused on the government's support for the development of scientific research in our universities.

"With the effective implementation of another legal instrument, the Law on Science and Scientific Research in Albania, we are working to complete all the bylaws so that this law supports not only universities but also institutions and scientific research units as a whole, to create centers of excellence, to support them financially, to motivate even more cooperation not only inter-university but also inter-institutional, but also those with business and especially to approach European Union projects in the most effective way and to have the opportunity for us to benefit as much as possible, not only from technology transfer, but on the other hand to develop our human capacities. Our common challenge is related to internationalization and profiling, when we talk about internationalization what we mean is to make our education an education with the highest possible standards, included with the best possible standards of the European Union. We can succeed in the following years in turning Albania into an academic destination. It is possible because the most valuable resources and potentials "We have human goodness here," said the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu. /CNA
