Meta "raises" the alarm/ Albania, last in the region for media freedom

The head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, in the context of the World Press Freedom Day, has stated that the media in Albania are under state violence and censorship this year as well.

Meta has brought back to attention some of the main events in the country where, according to him, media rights were not respected and were attacked unjustly, such as the case of the gun attack on "Top Channel".

Among other things, Meta said that today Albania ranks last in the region for media freedom,

"The World Press Freedom Day finds the Albanian media again this year under the violence and censorship of the Government and its clients, as well as under the control of the oligarchy.

Blowing up with tritol the businesses of media owners, shutting down televisions, using firearms and brutal physical violence against reporters, unjust fines, censorship and self-censorship, detentions without cause, threats, blackmail, lack of regular contracts. work and malpayment, as well as political influence through the definition of editorial lines with funds from the dark world of crime and corruption, is the environment where most Albanian journalists worked.

Sharing the same concerns expressed in the last Reporters Without Borders report, I emphasize the importance of a free, independent and responsible media, which is essential for any functional and stable democracy.

Free media, independent and in the service of the highest public interest, transparency and accountability at every level, is a goal for which we must all strive and cooperate.
