CEC removed Fredi Beler's mandate/ Agaçi letter to the Presidency, demands elections in Himara

The General Secretary to the Prime Minister, Engjell Agaçi, addressed a letter to the Presidency asking him to set the date of the partial elections for the Himar Municipality.

This move comes a few hours after the CEC declared Fredi Beleri's mandate in Himara Municipality invalid. 

At today's meeting of the CEC, Beleri himself was present, who said that he was treated unfairly. 

Beler was escorted this morning by prison police forces from Fier prison to the CEC.

Meanwhile, his lawyer, Klodiana Gjyzari, stated that this is an invalid procedure and that the CEC has no competence to make such a decision. 

The Court against Corruption and Organized Crime decided a few months ago to sentence the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, to two years in prison for active corruption in the May 14, 2023 elections. /CNA
