The former CDU German MEP, Elmar Brook, this evening joined the gathering at the residence of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

Brook expressed his appreciation for the leader of the opposition, Berisha, while declaring that a country that intends to become part of the European Union cannot keep the leader of the opposition under arrest so that he does not participate in the parliament.

The former MEP underlined that as elected by the people, Berisha cannot be arrested without a final guilty verdict.

"Immunity cannot be obtained without a court order," said Brook.

The former MEP further emphasized that there is hope in the independence of the judiciary and that the leaders of the opposition should be left free to do the work for their country. If there is a violation of the law, the court will take action.

"Such behavior towards the opposition should not hinder Albania's membership in the EU. If someone is guilty, let it be the independent court that must prove this. I hope for the independence of the judiciary and the leaders of the opposition to work freely for their country . If there is a violation by a member of the opposition or the government, the independent court will take action. We need Albania in the EU", said former MEP Elmar Brok. / CNA
