Balla: The number of illegal immigrants has decreased
Taulant Balla

The Minister of the Interior, Tulant Balla, in his speech at the meeting of ministers of the Western Balkans on illegal immigrants entering Europe, said that for the period January-April 2024, there has been a general decrease in cases of illegal activities in comparison with the same period of 2023.

Balla underlined that thanks to the partnership with FRONTEX, we have managed to significantly increase the effectiveness of border operations, train our personnel and modernize border control equipment and methods.

Balla's Word:

Through the partnership with FRONTEX, we have managed to significantly increase the effectiveness of border operations, train our personnel and modernize border control equipment and methods. This cooperation has allowed not only a better surveillance of the borders, but also a faster and more coordinated response to any suspicious movement.

The structures of the State Police of the Republic of Albania have worked with dedication and perseverance to prevent, identify and address the phenomenon of irregular migration involving citizens from countries involved in conflict and beyond.

Thanks to this work and cooperation with partners in the period January - April 2024, we observed a general decrease in cases of illegal activities compared to the same period of 2023.

But despite all the measures taken, the issue of irregular migration through the Western Balkans remains a constant challenge from all our countries that must be addressed.

We are ready to cooperate at the operational level, organizing more investigative activities and cracking down on smuggling networks, at the regulatory level, improving our legislative framework and expanding cooperation with third countries on readmission, but also using platforms to share real-time data to deliver fast and effective solutions to common challenges. /CNA
