Erion Veliaj, born fraudster

The mayor of Tirana, for whom SPAK is conducting investigations and has 4 charges of active corruption, passive corruption, concealment of assets and money laundering, Erion Veliaj is a born fraudster, a professional liar.

In fact, these words were spoken by Kreshnik Spahiu about his former soldier Erion Veliaj.

"I know Erion Veliaj and we worked together with the Civil Society. At the age of 21, he came from abroad to Albania and said I graduated from 3 faculties and worked in 62 countries around the world. When we did the math, I told him, Erion, you must be 220 years old, why did you tell me, but I told him to graduate from 3 faculties and work in 62 countries around the world, if you add them up arithmetically, you have to be 220 years old, you are 21 years old, I told him that you have not graduated from any faculty, you have to be a high school student. He paused, he didn't answer, he was spinning around. Erion is a born deceiver. If there is a more professional liar, but he is only a professional. "If he were older, Vebi Alimuça would not have made the pyramids with Suden, but Erion Veliaj is a born super-swindler," Kreshnik Spahiu said about Erion Veliaj in one of his interviews.

SPAK scams

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, in April 2024, spent 8 hours at SPAK, 1 hour waiting in the building's lobby, and another 7 hours giving an account to prosecutors for affairs in the Municipality of Tirana.

During his stay at SPAK, he was confronted with facts and evidence about the affair with the Tirana incinerator, as well as the "5D" file, where a number of directors of the Tirana Municipality, i.e. Veliaj's collaborators, were arrested.

Veliaj came out publicly and said that he was not summoned by SPAK and did not hesitate to call SPAK prosecutors and BKH investigators colleagues.

But in fact, SPAK sent Veliaj 3 summonses. CNA reported a day earlier that one of SPAK's summonses went to Erion Veliaj on April 23rd with the intention of questioning him in connection with the Tirana incinerator case. Veliaj appeared before SPAK just a day earlier, on April 30th.

The second deception

The mayor said in one of the studios of a television station paid for with the money of the incinerators, that he gave the building where SPAK is currently located to this structure, that is, the Municipality of Tirana.

"We have been cooperative with SPAK, not only on issues of documentation and the progress of investigations, but we have also proven it with the VKB, by also providing municipal properties for the progress of SPAK's work. I remind you that the former Waterworks building was donated to SPAK by the Municipality of Tirana, so that BKH colleagues can work in humane conditions because you cannot have an institution, which is supposed to represent justice, where they sit like in the schools in Tirana that I found a few years ago, with 5 people in an office and piles of files," said Veliaj.

But the truth is completely different. This building was provided by the Ministry of Justice and not by the Municipality of Tirana.

Failed manipulation

After leaving SPAK, Veliaj behaved like a person terrified by the evidence and questions of SPAK prosecutors. He appeared in front of the cameras exhausted, tired, even though he said he had cooperated with "his colleagues", i.e. SPAK prosecutors. CNA reported yesterday that Veliaj also asked for coffee during his stay at SPAK, after his tension dropped while facing evidence and facts.

Lali Eri seeks to divert attention from the scandals that have engulfed the institution he leads and does not hesitate to attack journalists and analysts. According to him, the latter attack him without any right.

Incinerator scam

Erion Veliaj has lied about the incinerators. There is a video of his statements about this, where he initially stated that he was not the one who had requested the construction of the Tirana incinerator and that the Municipality of Tirana was just a client of the government. But in another meeting of the Municipal Council, he proudly claimed that he was the one who had requested the incinerator from the government.

Fraud for BKH checks

On December 6, on the orders of SPAK, the BKH landed at the apartment of the Veliaj-Xoxa couple where they conducted searches, seized phones, bills, money, etc. Lali Eri's media, those paid by the incinerators, reported that the search had been conducted on Veliaj's wife, Ajola Xoxa, and that her phone had been seized and that there were no consequences for Veliaj, until the mayor was called for the second time and had to misuse the Municipal Council to react and say that investigations were actually being conducted against him.

Orbital forest scams

On March 26, 2023, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, announced to the media the planting of the 1 millionth tree in Tirana, calling this an event of particular importance for the capital.

But the 1 million trees that the municipality says it has planted in Tirana have not turned out to have made Tirana greener. On the contrary, the Albanian capital today is, according to the World Bank, slightly more devoid of greenery than in 2015.

The World Bank's report on the state of the Western Balkan economies has definitively debunked the thesis of green Tirana and 2 million trees, exposing it as one of the biggest public frauds.

According to the World Bank, in the last 7 years, Tirana has not only not become greener, but on the contrary has seen a reduction in green areas.

Television scams

Erion Veliaj is a master at this scene. He often lies and deceives citizens with recorded meetings. So on a rainy day, Erion comes out with sunshine.

Tirana, the cleanest capital of the region

Erion Veliaj, in one of his public statements, stated that Tirana is the cleanest capital in the region, while CNA presented facts about the air quality in Tirana and what the reports showed regarding pollution in Tirana.

He also reported every day for weeks how Tirana was boiling with garbage, while Veliaj beat his chest about the large number of tourists visiting the country.

The fraud for his thieving directors

After SPAK's investigations into the "5D" file, Veliaj's directors were put behind bars for abuses and corruption in the Tirana Municipality institution.

Erion Veliaj and his media gang said they were former directors, but in fact they were current directors appointed to institutions under the Municipality of Tirana.

Veliaj initially defended them as a team with whom he had done good work to later sell them, stating that everyone bears individual responsibility.
