Kos/Rama's statement: It is important that we do not have a veto and that

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the joint conference with EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato, was also asked about yesterday's statement by the EC Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.

We recall that yesterday Commissioner Kos spoke out against Albania's membership in the EU, but without the right of veto.

In this regard, Rama said today that Albania wants to sit at the table as a member with equal rights, but is ready to participate in any kind of discussion.

The Prime Minister stated that he agrees with membership without the right of veto and this can be done simply by agreement without changing the treaties.

" We want to sit at the table as equals. We want to have full access to the entire EU structure in terms of legislation, budgets, etc. They want the same thing, but they have a fear. Being 27 makes it difficult to make decisions. Now they say imagine if we become 28... 30 or who knows how difficult it could become. Despite the fact that we as Balkans are calmer than them, who have been Balkanized in the meantime.

We are ready to participate in any kind of discussion. It does not need to be done with treaty changes, it can be done simply by agreement. The important thing is that we do not have a veto and they do not fear our veto.

One of those greats told me that we would join the EU and celebrate it together. He is no more, he is gone. Times have changed and we must adapt with the times.

"Don't tell us to wait until the EU reforms, as another person who is leaving now told me ," Rama said. /CNA
