Bylykbashi: ODIHR puts its stamp on Albania 35 years later

DP Vice President Oerd Bylykbashi spoke about the OSCE-ODIHR report on the May 11 elections. According to Bylykbashi, this report proved that Albania has gone back 35 years.

In 1990, as soon as Communism fell, the OSCE set the basic standard for free and fair elections:

- The state must be separated from the ruling party.

- Elections must be free.

- Competitors must have equality in the competition.

2025, OSCE/ODIHR condemns elections in Albania:

- The dividing line between the state and the ruling party disappeared.

- The playing field was uneven.

- The Socialist Party took advantage of being in power to gain an advantage in the elections.

- Pressure was exerted on voters.

So on May 11, according to the ODIHR, the elections were neither free nor fair. Because there can be no fair and equal competition when the opponent in the election is the state. Even less so when the state party is in an electoral coalition with the cocaine and heroin cartels.

"35 years after the Copenhagen Document that set the standards for democratic elections, Edi Rama and the heirs of the Labor Party returned the party to the state," Bylykbashi writes./ CNA
