The chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, reacted to the budget being discussed in the Assembly, emphasizing the pensioners.

He argues that even though Albania has doubled its budget income in the last 10 years, over 500,000 pensioners have real incomes currently lower than in 2014.

This figure, according to him, ranks Albanian pensioners with the lowest pensions in the region, while the increase in basket prices is happening at a fast pace.

"Albania is the country with the lowest minimum or average pension in the Region. Albanian pensioners benefit from, at best, less than half the payment of pensioners in Montenegro, Serbia or North Macedonia.

Although Albania has doubled its budget income in the last 10 years, more than 500,000 pensioners have real incomes currently lower than in 2014. While the increase in basket prices occurs at a fast rate, this has not happened in these years with the amount of pension. Over 500,000 people who received old-age pensions in 2023 had an average monthly income of ALL 18,341, according to official data from the Institute of Social Insurance, this value is 26% more than in 2014, while inflation is around 34%. As a result, the real pension has been reduced by at least 8% during the administration of Edi Rama.

The corrupt government of Edi Rama has money to pay for incinerators that do not exist, roads with a cost several times higher than the real value, or for concessionary contracts in health for health services that citizens do not benefit from. Meanwhile, he never found funds for pensioners during his 12 governing years to guarantee them a dignified pension, a real and significant increase to cover the increased costs of living", Bardhi emphasizes./ CNA
