A political reaction was made today in front of the Korça Police Station, where 27-year-old Kevi Muçllari is being held, arrested two days ago after the incident at the Pogradec Municipal Council meeting.

"Mundësia" Party MP Erald Kapri has appeared before the media defending the young man's actions and calling his arrest an unjust act. Kapri said he had set out from Tirana to encourage Muçllari, whom he described as an example of citizenship and courage.

According to him, the arrest is fabricated and constitutes a violation of human rights, as the young man had reacted in defense of the interests of the residents of the village of Çërrava.

The MP demanded the immediate release of Muçllari and announced that he had contacted the Ombudsman, who has registered the case for investigation. He also stated that he would ask the Police Supervision Agency to verify the legality of the arrest.

According to Kapri, Muçllari's case shows that protest and civic courage are still punished in Albania, while he described it as a political message that aims to intimidate residents who raise their voices against abuses of public property.

In conclusion, he emphasized that the event is clear evidence of the lack of democracy and demanded justice for the 27-year-old from Pogradec.

In a cunning and inhuman way, he was arrested and has a fabricated charge just for doing his civic duty. Today, I think that all Albanians should be proud that a young citizen, a 10th grade student in political science, stands up for the residents and goes to a meeting of the Municipal Council where instead of being encouraged, he is arrested and kept in prison without having the opportunity to meet him. I think that tomorrow, any judge who will have his case to give justice, let him go free because we are clearly dealing with a violation of the constitution and human rights. Imagine the absurdity that a person takes the courage to protest, to raise his voice, we live in a democratic country, is provoked by the mayor and unfounded accusations are mounted against him, watching the video of all Albanians. Muçllari should be congratulated for it the entire act that he took because this is a model that should be encouraged in society. They should protest and not remain silent, and even more so since we are dealing with a corrupt act of the Pogradec Municipality that takes a common property from the residents and without indicating the intention of what they will do with that property, forces the Municipal Council to alienate that community property. I also contacted the Ombudsman today who confirmed to me that the case has been registered to see if there is a violation in the arrest of Muçllari. Also as a deputy and as a member of the National Security Committee, I will ask the AMP to investigate the case of Muçllari because I believe that we are dealing with a violation of human rights and freedoms, how a citizen is arrested because he protested. This is another absurdity how a country aims to join the EU after a few years, the young man is arrested because he protests. I think that we are dealing with a pure political message, to say to all the residents of Çërrava, one of the villages with "The great people of Korca, but also of all of Albania, that whoever raises their voice will have their fate ," declared Kapri./CNA
