"More budget for defense"/ Noka: Albania's dignity before NATO is

Democratic MP Flamur Noka criticized today the budget forecast for 2026 for the Ministry of Defense, saying it is much lower than necessary for the country, but also for NATO's requirements.

In his speech to the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense, Noka stated that 1.55% of GDP is not enough for Albania for security and the country must approach NATO with dignity.

"The Ministry of Defense is of extraordinary importance, even more so in the conditions of Albania, as a member of NATO. It requires interaction, contribution and efforts for common security. The government, with this budget, is deceiving not only Albanians, but also NATO. It is not 2% of GDP. Defense receives 1.55%, the rest is healthcare and the administration that is inflated. We did not have the planes to put out the fire, then they said that we do not have pilots. While Albania was burning, they were leaving and extinguishing the fires with tree leaves, like in the Stone Age. This is the real budget. On paper it is 2%, but NATO policy has not been implemented. You know very well that NATO has advanced with demands, aiming for 5% of the budget. Here they are playing with classifications. Albania must go to NATO with dignity", - said Noka./CNA
